Good Candidates for Breast Reduction
Women with extremely large breasts often face feelings of frustration about their size as well as physical discomfort. If you experience any of the following, you may want to consider breast reduction surgery:
- Your breast size keeps you from enjoying exercise or other physical activities
- Your bra straps leave painful rashes or marks
- You suffer from pain in your shoulders, neck, or back
- You are unhappy with your body shape
Breast Reduction Procedure & Recovery
For breast reduction surgery, Chicago, Illinois area women trust Dr. Rios. During two consultations, he explains the procedure and performs a thorough physical examination. He also answers any question or concerns you have about breast reduction. All this helps you make an informed decision about the best way to reach your ultimate goal.
During surgery, you'll be under general anesthesia. Dr. Rios makes a vertical incision from the nipple to the fold underneath the breast and then across the breast fold (this is known as an "inverted T" or "anchor" incision). He then removes excess tissue, skin, and fat and repositions the nipple and areola. The breast is reshaped to a smaller size and more attractive shape. Often, a breast lift will be performed in conjunction with a breast reduction to both elevate and reshape the breasts.
While recovering from breast reduction surgery, it is perfectly natural to feel some pain for several days. Dr. Rios will prescribe medication to help you manage any immediate discomfort. After that, you'll switch to Ibuprofen or Tylenol. During your recovery, which takes a few weeks, you should wear a support bra and avoid strenuous exercise.
